A Second Home in Mexico |
|
|
My wife and I have owned a home in the Baja for almost two and absolutely love it. We are so glad we made the choice to buy in the Rosarito/Ensenada area, and particularly a condo in Palacio del Mar just south of Rosarito.
When we first started consideration of where to buy our second home, we knew we wanted to be on the Baja and were focusing on Cabo and the Rosarito/Ensenada areas. We had vacationed in both areas many times over the years. After a few house hunting trips to both areas, we ruled our Cabo due to travel time and costs and the amount of house you got for a given price We found the costs of quality condos in Cabo to be at least double to triple the prices of equivalent properties in the Rosarito/Ensenada areas. We also realized that we simply could not visit Cabo with the ease and frequency that we could farther north.
Our primary residence is in Los Angeles and we try to get to our Baja home every other weekend. It is only a 3 ½ hour drive door-to-door which is very easy.
We absolutely love Palacio del Mar. The location is great, the amenities are first class and our condo is absolutely beautiful with great ocean views and top-quality build to American tastes and expectations. But what we love most is the great friends we have made down there. We have made a great circle of friends in Palacio where we compare schedules and look forward to seeing each other on the weekends. Palacio del Mar is truly a community where we plan many events. Whether it’s just one or two couples getting together for dinner, or the monthly homeowner BBQ or trips to the wine country in the Palacio shuttle, we always have something going on when we are in our Baja home. We also love the people of Mexico. We have found them to be very friendly, considerate, moral and very family orientated. They go out of their way to make us Americanos feel welcome.
We have brought many friends from the US to our condo and ALL have loved it as much as we do. When people ask me aren’t I afraid with all the drug gang violence, I flatly say no and explain that none of that violence is in the Baja and that our crime rate has been declining in recent years. The violence is largely centered in Juarez along the US border with Arizona and Texas. I equate it to hearing about crime wave in Salt Lake City and being worried about it 600 miles away in Los Angeles. In short, we feel very secure.
